Frequently Asked Questions

I booked an appointment, now what?

An email confirmation will be sent to you after the appointment has been successfully booked and arrive to your selected Health Box location. We will assist you there.

What do I bring with me to a travel appointment?

Bring along your drug insurance information so we can bill through any vaccine or medication costs directly to your insurance.

Please also bring along any vaccine records you may have. After you fill out our pre-appointment form we will pull your Alberta vaccine records , but any paper copies you have at home are also important to bring along. It is okay if you do not have any records of your own, many people do not.

Is there a charge for this service?

Travel consults and vaccines are NOT covered by Alberta Health. Travel health is a paid service whether you visit your family doctor or a travel clinic. Our travel clinicians have professional certification through the International Society of Travel Medicine to ensure you receive expert care.

We want to keep your costs down when you come in for a visit—that’s why we only charge for vaccines we feel are absolutely necessary for your health and protection. We’re not going to charge for hidden fees such as writing prescriptions, issuing vaccination records, administration fees in relation to injections for vaccines and boosters or for follow up appointments, and all vaccination records.

We will also bill through any eligible vaccines to available insurance (if you happen to have a direct bill drug insurance plan), we provide you with official prescription receipts for all products and services discussed during your consultation. The consultation fee includes all further ongoing care, the cost of all injection fees (usually $15-20 per vaccine), the printed resources provided and access to our travel clinicians while you are travelling for any questions or concerns.

What can I expect at my travel clinic appointment?

When you arrive for your appointment and meet the Mint Health+Drugs travel clinician they will go over your medical history, vaccine history, any medications being taken and any medical conditions that may impact your travel.

We’ll talk about your travel plans and look over maps and international resources specific for your itinerary to provide you with education and a written plan to take home. Food and water precautions, mosquito protection, and diseases like yellow fever, malaria, hepatitis, dengue, typhoid, mers co-v, etc. as well as travellers’ diarrhea prevention and treatment will be discussed. We’re happy to provide any medications you need for those preventable diseases and illnesses as well as education on their use while away. Our clinicians are also able to provide other non-travel related prescription medications that may be needed.

We’ll then get you set up with an immunization record as well as certificates for vaccines required for entry to certain countries in case you require that.

Our care does not end when your appointment is finished. Follow up care is provided ongoing at no extra cost to you. Our clinicians are available to you while you are travelling to answer any health concerns.

Do I need a travel appointment?

A travel consultation is a personalized risk assessment specific to you and your travel itinerary, conducted by your Pharmacist. We provide dedicated time to you to provide the best care for your trip. Appointments can range from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the complexity of your trip.
